Growing Up

They never warned us that growing up,

meant growing tired.,

not just of the world but of ourselves.

That “how are you?”,

would become a question,

We don’t answer honestly anymore.

We all foolishly thought adulthood meant freedom.

Instead it’s crying in the shower, because that’s the only time you’re alone,

and pretending you’re fine,

because there’s no room not to be.

We used to vibe to sad songs just for the melody,

now the lyrics feel like home.

Like someone’s been reading our tired thoughts and turning them into verses,

that we wish we didn’t relate to.

We were in such a rush to grow up,

but no one told us growing up meant feeling like you’re slowly falling apart,

while still showing up every single day.
